It’s my first time watching Initial D in any form of media, and so far, I’m loving it!
Can’t wait for Legends 3: Dream!

I wasn’t ready to commit to watching the whole anime series until I saw the 2005 Jay Chou flick. I loved it, and that was just the push I needed to dive in. Those who watched the anime first might have reasons to dislike the live action movie, or the new Legend series, but all versions have their strong points, really. I think Legend ’s animation style is fantastic!

Ideally it would be better to watch the TV series first, but that does take a while before the animation gets good, so this is still a good way to start. For the full experience I'd recommend the show though.

I’ve seen the TV anime version, and its latter stages look more fluid than the movies. Still, better than nothing!

If you’re willing to overlook lower-quality animation, there’s much more content to be absorbed from watching the whole series. 2nd Stage/Extra Stage ) was probably the lowest point (Ryosuke was drawn too much like Takumi, IMO), but it still contains moments that are important to the story and cannot be skipped.
I wasn’t sure what the Legend series was going to be at first, but it’s coming together like an abridged re-imagining of First Stage . If you like what you’re seeing, you could jump right into 2nd Stage after Legend 3 , but I’d really recommend going through all of First Stage before doing so.

Awesome. The animation in the first series may be a bit off, but the music more than makes up for it. Before you know it the show becomes leaps and bounds better. Especially in animation and story.
